WINE EXPERT’S TASTING NOTES

The 2018 Rosso di Montalcino grumbles up from the glass, dark yet inviting, with notes of leather and tobacco offset by a cooling whiff of mint and wild strawberry that comes forward over time. Its silken textures are complemented by a rich wave of dark fruits that give way to nuances of licorice and spice. It leaves a savory bitterness that's nicely lifted by residual acids, tapering off to hints of plum and sage. There's an unexpected weight to the 2018, yet the balance here is on point.

WINEMAKER’S TASTING NOTE

Deep floral aromas with hints of spice and mint. The wine is medium to full bodied, with nice acidy and balanced tannins. Ideal with cold cuts and meat sauce pasta and grilled red meat. Fantastic alongside medium seasoned cheeses and mushrooms.

TASTE WINE

Look, Smell, Taste and Conclude

VISUAL

You can tell the age of the wine by the color in the glass, also if you look at the legs of the wine you can determine quality aspects

SMELL

When you first start smelling wine, think big to small. Are there fruits? Think of broad categories first, i.e. citrus, orchard, or tropical fruits in whites or, when tasting reds, red fruits, blue fruits, or black fruits. Getting too specific or looking for one particular note can lead to frustration

The Grape

The grape variety is very important to understand a wine.
Grape varieties are considered the most important factor in differentiating a wine

IN YOUR TONGUE

You will be able to perceive that the flavor runs throughout the mouth. You will notice how it runs along the sides, which indicates that it is a quality wine due to its structure.
