Remírez de Ganuza. The best of Rioja.

Fernando's goal was (and still is) to create
the best possible wine from the best possible grapes.
The key plantings, whose vines now average 60+ years in age, are
Tempranillo, Graciano, Malvasía, and Viura.

The award-winning style of the Bodega’s older vintages, which are currently in high demand and a popular choice with wine investors and collectors, are proof of his success.

As an "outsider" to a process that was strongly rooted in family traditions, Fernando noticed many small details in the traditional winemaking methods that he was compelled to change. For starters, he noticed that the sorting and handling of grapes tended to be very sloppy. Knowing that only the best grapes can produce wines with real longevity, his first priority was to initiate the use of a sorting table for manual grape selection. Today this practice is quite common, but back in 1991 they didn’t yet exist in Spain.

In 1996 he introduced the use of truncated conical fermenters. And yet again, after 9 years of tirelessly working to improve old systems, he developed and patented a frictionless winepress.
Beginning with his very first vintage, traditional aging methods were questioned, yet again. By using new French oak barriques to age his wines as opposed to older American oak barrels the bodega has been able to produce wines that are cleaner, purer, more balanced and less oxidative.

With an average of 60 years of age, his vines produce low-yield, high-quality grapes with excellent concentration and balance. Innovation in the vineyards and winery has always been aimed at improving the quality and longevity of his award winning Riojas.

Each and every sip from a Remírez de Ganuza wine provides the truest expression of La Rioja and is built to last 20+ years.
